The cancellation of the European Arrest Warrant against MP Marcin Romanowski, a success for Khanzadyan Lewandowski & Partners, which has echoed across Poland

Thanks to the intervention of advocate Bartosz Lewandowski, the District Court in Warsaw, by decision of December 19, 2025, annulled the European Arrest Warrant against MP Marcin Romanowski, our law firm’s client.

In this case, which has been at the center of public debate for months, the court explicitly addressed the political context of the proceedings, noting significant threats to fair-trial standards. The justification emphasized, among other things, the influence of political factors on the investigation, violations of fundamental civil liberties, and unacceptable pressure on the justice system, all of which the court cannot leave unaddressed.

The court highlighted the disturbing phenomenon of interference by the highest representatives of the executive branch in the sphere of judicial independence, emphasizing that in a democratic state governed by the rule of law, these boundaries must be unequivocally respected – even in cases of significant political and media importance.

European Arrest Warrant proceedings are among the most complex criminal cases, requiring a precise balance between national and EU law and the case law of the European courts. Each such case requires individual, courageous, and substantive procedural argumentation.

At Khanzadyan Lewandowski & Partners, when human freedom and the fundamental principles of the rule of law are at stake, we do not shy away from difficult and inconvenient cases – even when that means facing the full force of the executive branch.
